The zebra shark

The zebra shark

The zebra shark belongs to the order of orectolobiformi which includes the dogfish and other sharks carpet, so named for their recognizable streaks reminiscent of the plot of oriental carpets.

The name comes from the special livery zebra that little ones have in the first months. The "striped" serves to small zebra sharks tocamouflage and to blend in shallow waters, where sunlight penetrating form some irregular lines on the bottom of the water,  recalling the livery of this species.

As an adult this shark loses the strips, which are replaced by characteristic black polka dots.
